AS the government intensifies fight against corruption and drugs, religious leaders and institutions have been urged to up bring youths in line with Godly teachings to have better leaders and society.

The call was made by the Minister for Home Affairs, Mwigulu Nchemba, during the Tanzania Fellowship of Evangelical Students (TAFES) reunion and dinner, in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.

The Minister said that current killings and corruption are reason behind people’s lack of fear of God.

“The recent killings by unknown people or even the killing of people living with albinism and elders are proof that people are not afraid of God.

The government can offer better education to its people, but spiritual leaders will help us to have faithful employees, so that we would not have corrupt leaders and civil servants,” he noted, adding that religious leaders have a role to play that’s to shape the society.

Expounding further, he said moral decay is among reasons of crime waves, and that the funds channeled to fight against crimes would be used in other development projects to improve people’s lives.

The Minister also commended the fellowship administration’s decision to invest in youths to help up bring professionals with Godly teachings and help the country have faithful and honest leaders.

The TAFES national governing council chairperson, Prof Lazaro Busagala said TAFES is a national and Interdenominational organisation ministering to students in universities, colleges to deepen and strengthen spiritual life of students that will have an impact in the society.

“Our goal is to prepare youths to become ethical leaders, to put others’ interests ahead of theirs and do all good things in line with Godly teachings,” he said.

Working with 5,000 students all over the country, Prof Busagala said the organisation has mentored a number of wellknown faithful figures in the society including the Deputy Speaker, Dr Tulia Akson.
